Curbside Collection Now Available...

Milton Public Library's Curbside Collection services are available at Main library and Beaty branch (Sherwood branch is CLOSED until further notice). 

Contactless Curbside Collection service is available by appointment only on the following days and times:

MPL’s Curbside Collection Service:

Place Your Holds and Choose Your Timeslot:

  1. Go to www.beinspired.ca to access our catalogue
  2. Log in to "My Account" using your library card number and PIN
  3. Select your items and click "Request It" to place a hold 
  4. Wait for email notification that your items are ready for pick up and book your slot using the link in the email
  5. If you were notified by phone or cannot find the email sent to you by MPL, click here to access our timeslot booking website 
  6. MPL staff will bundle all items on hold for you each week in a fully recyclable weather-proof bag, so you only need to book one timeslot!
  7. PLEASE NOTE: If you do not want to receive your items in a plastic bag, and would prefer that items are placed directly in your trunk, please request "NO BAG" in the Notes field when booking your Curbside Collection timeslot.
  8. Choose a scheduled pickup location timeslot from available options
  9. Visit your selected branch at your designated time

When you arrive at your selected MPL location (Main or Beaty), please observe the following instructions:

  1. Park your vehicle in one of the designated spots in the Curbside Collection area  
  2. Call or text  to alert staff of your arrival (number will be provided in your confirmation email)
  3. Please pop the trunk of your vehicle, remotely if possible
  4. Ensure you are back in your vehicle before staff arrive
  5. Please do not approach staff under any circumstance; staff are not able to take returned items from patrons during the Curbside Collection process
  6. To verify your identity, place your library card or confirmation email against vehicle window
  7. A library staff member will place bagged items in your vehicle’s trunk
  8. Wait for the staff member to leave the parking lot area
  9. Once you have received your items, close your trunk and vacate your parking spot immediately so that other patrons may use it
  10. If you do not arrive within your designated time, YOU WILL FORFEIT YOUR TIME SLOT and will be charged $1.00 per item

  • Curbside Collection FAQs

    MPL’s Curbside Collection Code of Conduct:

    If you are feeling unwell, or have been in contact with anyone who is ill, please do not visit the library.

    All MPL staff and patrons must adhere to physical distancing at all times (minimum 6’ separation).

    All patrons must remain in vehicle throughout entire contactless Curbside Collection process, unless opening or closing vehicle trunk. Please DO NOT engage with staff during the transaction.

    MPL staff will not accept any items from patrons during the Curbside Collection process; please use the external Book Drops at Main library and Beaty branch.

    Patrons must show MPL card or confirmation email as proof of identification in order to receive library materials checked out to the corresponding patron’s account.

    Any disrespectful or abusive behaviour will result in a refusal of service and cancellation of holds.

    Curbside Collection FAQs:

    Is it safe to borrow materials from Milton Public Library during the COVID-19 pandemic?

    MPL will follow all provincial public health guidelines regarding the safe handling, quarantine, and necessary sanitisation of all materials prior to circulating them to the public. We are taking all precautions to ensure our working environment remains in compliance with health and safety protocols to keep our staff and patrons safe. If you are feeling unwell, have traveled outside of Canada in the previous 14 days, or have anyone in your household experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, please do not borrow items from Milton Public Library. Our staff will gladly assist you with extending your holds period until you are feeling better and able to visit the library.

    Where is the Curbside Collection service available?

    Currently, Curbside Collection is available at MPL's Main library and Beaty branch. Our Sherwood branch will remain closed until further notice.

    When are the Curbside Collection pickup periods?

    MPL will be offering curbside pickup during the following times (individual timeslots must be booked once a notification email is received that items are ready for pickup):

    How many items can I borrow?

    Milton Public Library patrons can borrow up to 50 items at a time.

    How long can I borrow items?

    During the curbside collection period, all items are available for a three-week loan period.

    Why do I have to book a designated timeslot?

    MPL is following all provincial public health guidelines regarding physical distancing in order to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community. These Curbside Collection processes allow us to continue offering exceptional customer service during this unprecedented time, while ensuring the safety and well-being of our staff and patrons.

    How can I book a timeslot to pick up my holds?

    As soon as your hold becomes available, you will receive a hold notification email with details on how to schedule a Curbside Collection timeslot, as well as details on how to pick up your hold.

    Can I change my timeslot once it has been booked?

    If you need to change the confirmed Curbside Collection timeslot you chose, you must go back into the web application to cancel the original appointment and book a new one.

    Can I send someone else to pick up my holds?

    Yes! Please ensure that whomever you have designated to fulfill your Curbside Collection appointment has your library card or confirmation email to make sure our staff is aware that your friend or family member has your permission to pick up your items on your behalf.

    Can I walk or bike to pickup my holds?

    How do I check out materials?

    Once you have confirmed your scheduled Curbside Collection timeslot, staff will check all holds out to your MPL card and place them in a plastic bag with your checkout receipt attached, and deliver them to your vehicle when you arrive at your designated location and time.

    Can I check out items if I have fines on my MPL account?

    You must have a library account in good standing in order to use MPL’s Curbside Collection service. To pay fines in excess of $5, you can login to your account and pay online here: https://encore.mpl.on.ca/iii/encore/?lang=eng

    Can I borrow physical materials with my MPL e-card?

    Yes! You can place holds and borrow physical materials with your online MPL e-card. All borrowing guidelines and Curbside Collection procedures are the same as if you had a physical MPL card. 

    How can I return my items?

    All Milton Public Library materials must be returned to the branch from which you borrowed (ie: Main items must be returned at Main; Beaty items must be returned at Beaty) using the exterior book drop return. The book drop at Sherwood branch is closed until further notice.

  • Placing Holds

    Placing Holds:

    We are delighted to announce that effective April 9th, 2021, you can place holds on MPL items for Curbside Collection. 

    You can place a hold on any of the items within our catalogue that will be available for collection from Main library and Beaty branch. We will be adding new items to the catalogue on a regular basis and have increased the quantities of each item. We have also increased the loan period to three weeks for all items in our collection.

    We are also working with other Ontario public libraries on procedures for offering Interlibrary Loan materials for Curbside Collection, and will update this page accordingly.

  • Book Drops

    Book Drops:

    The external book drops at Main library and Beaty branch are open and accepting returns seven days a week. The book drops at Sherwood branch remains closed at this time.

    We are accepting all materials, including Interlibrary Loans.

    Please note that due to the volume of returns we are receiving, items may still be showing on your account after they are placed in the book return to accommodate the quarantine period. Staff will continue to check in all materials and follow up with any outstanding issues at a later date.

  • Printing

    Wireless Printing:

    MPL is excited to offer wireless printing during the Curbside Collection period. Supported formats include: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, and most picture formats (png, jpg).

    Please email your document(s) as an attachment to:

    YOU MUST INCLUDE YOUR NAME, MPL BARCODE NUMBER, NUMBER OF COPIES REQUESTED, PICKUP LOCATION (MAIN or BEATY), AND COLOUR CHOICE:

    Black & White prints ($0.20 / page)

    Colour prints ($0.40 / page)

    You will receive an auto reply email with instructions on how and when to pickup your document(s).

    MPL staff will add the cost of your printing job(s) to your MPL account. Please pay your balance (once it reaches a minimum of $5.00) online by visiting My Account and selecting Fines/Fees.

    When you arrive to pick up your item(s):

    • Park your vehicle in one of the designated spots in the Curbside Collection area
    • Call MPL to alert staff of arrival (905-875-2665) and state that you are picking up a printing job
    • Pop the trunk of your vehicle, remotely if possible
    • Return to vehicle before staff arrive
    • Please do not approach staff under any circumstance; staff are not able to take returned items from patrons during the Curbside Collection process
    • To verify identity, patrons must place their library card or confirmation email against vehicle window
    • Staff will place item(s) in vehicle’s trunk
    • Patron must wait for staff member to leave parking lot area
    • Patron must close trunk and vacate parking spot immediately

    Please note: MPL provides Curbside Collection printing services in accordance with MPL's Confidentiality and Protection of Privacy policy. All completed print jobs will be placed in sealed envelopes to protect patron privacy, and all emails are permanently deleted upon completion.

  • 3D Printing

    3D Printing:

    MPL is offering 3D printing services during the Curbside Collection period. Patrons must be certified to use MPL’s 3D printer service. 

    3D printing costs $1.00 to initiate and $0.50 for every 15 minutes of printing time thereafter. There is a six-hour limit for each print job.

    MPL staff will add the cost of your 3D printing job(s) to your MPL account. Please pay your balance (once it reaches a minimum of $5.00) online by visiting My Account and selecting Fines/Fees.

    3D Printing How to:

    Step 1:

    Prepare 3D printing file. MPL's 3D printer supports stereolithography (STL) files. Objects to be printed must comply with Milton Public Library's Rules of Conduct, and MPL reserves the right to deny printing objects that are deemed inappropriate. It is the responsibility of the patron to ensure the viability of the item to be printed. Library staff are not responsible for prints that fail due to design flaws. Please note that library staff will not clean the printed object, therefore when you receive your 3D printed item there will be extra plastic that will require removal.

    Please complete MPL's 3D Printing Submission Form including printing specifications and your .stl file. Files must be less than 10 MB.

    Step 2:

    Staff will provide a cost estimate within five (5) business days of receiving request, and will require approval before proceeding. Once the received item has finished printing, the cost of the item will be added as a fee on your library account. Please note: You can pay your balance (once it reaches a minimum of $5.00) online by visiting My Account and selecting Fines/Fees. A balance of $10 or more will result in your library privileges being suspended until paid.

    Step 3:

    A MPL staff member will release your completed 3D print job, and notify you with instructions regarding Curbside Collection pickup arrangements at Main library.

    Quick Picks and Quick Picks for Kids:

    Looking for some new and exciting titles, but not sure where to start? Why not try out our new Quick Picks and Quick Picks for Kids service!

    Beginning April 9th, 2021, just fill out this simple form to select a "surprise bag" filled with up to 10 items of varying genres and formats, chosen by a MPL staff member:

    Once you have completed and submitted the form, wait for your holds confirmation email and book your Curbside Collection timeslot.

  • Take and Make

    Take and Make Programming:

    MPL is pleased to offer "Take and Make" programming kits for our patrons!

    Be sure to check out our Events Calendar to register for these hands-on programs.

    Once you have received registration confirmation, MPL staff will contact you via email to confirm pick up dates for the "Take and Make" items.

    When you arrive to pick up your item(s):

    1. Park your vehicle in one of the designated spots in the Curbside Collection area  
    2. Call MPL to alert staff of arrival (905-875-2665) and state that you are picking up a Take and Make kit
    3. Pop the trunk of your vehicle, remotely if possible
